Primary school children in England have made a significant leap in the international rankings for reading, securing fourth place in the latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS). This rise from eighth to fourth showcases the remarkable progress achieved by English students. The PIRLS study, conducted every five years, assesses the reading abilities of nine and ten-year-olds, with the 2021 testing round involving nearly 400,000 pupils from 57 countries.
